Daniel Binet – The Winemaker
Daniel Binet is fast becoming one of the Hunter Valley’s most recognized young winemakers. He has a great ability to de-mystify the world of wine in a natural and engaging way. Daniel has been a winemaker for over 17 years in the Hunter Valley wine region of New South Wales, Australia.
In 2008, Daniel became director of Ballabourneen Wine Co. in partnership with Alex Stuart OAM of the former Stuart Bros Construction Company.
Ballabourneen Wine Co. produced its first vintage in 1993 and is a five star winery and the Hunter Valley’s only Dark Horse Winery to Watch in 2012 as awarded by James Halliday.
The companies cellar door is located on Broke Rd in the heart of Pokolbin. Ballabourneen Wine Co. produces premium quality wines true to its origin, growing Shiraz and Gamay Noir on -site, Ballabourneen also sources fruit from some of the Hunter Valley’s and other Australian wine regions most distinguished vineyards producing world class and unique wine styles.
Daniel was born in Efate Vanuatu and immigrated to Australia in the late 80’s. After completing school Daniel left for Europe to explore his French heritage. After completing vintages abroad Daniel returned to Australia to become a qualified winemaker. Early on in his career Daniel worked for Hunter Valley brands Bimbadgen and Capercaillie.
Daniel has been twice nominated for The Wine Society’s Young Winemaker of the Year and Hunter Valley Rising Star and recently the Hunter Wine Excellence scholarship.
Daniel has extensive wine show judging experience, regionally, nationally and regularly travels internationally to judge, most recently to Shanghai and New Zealand.
Daniel was recently married to long-term sweet heart Natalie and they have embarked on a new family label Domaine de Binet, which is the realisation of a childhood dream. This label embodies his creative expressions for new world wines to complement the Ballabourneen portfolio.
Most of Daniel’s life has been dedicated to the growing, cultivation and making of wine. He has a natural palate for wine, which allows him to create wines with personality, structure and finesse.
Daniel and Natalie have created “Toi et Moi” which is a special range of wines that they have made together.
